Abstract

Evaluation of school reform policies typically focus on metrics associated with school performance and rarely include an assessment on health. One school reform policy of particular concern is school receivership, a set of policies that allow for removal of local control via the appointment of a receiver when a school is labeled as chronically underperforming. Drawing upon a local example of a school under receivership, this research aims to characterize community discussions on receivership and health. Using thematic analysis of local school committee meetings, we aim to characterize discussions on the impacts of receivership on students, staff, and the larger community during the 2023-2024 academic year.
