ABSTRACT
Despite the increasing diversity in the patient population and healthcare workforce, the lack of racial diversity in leadership roles is still a prominent issue today. The project will be focused on the lack of racial diversity in the healthcare system, more specifically in several hospitals across the United States. The barriers and challenges that minority groups face in seeking leadership roles in these hospitals and the negative impacts it has on the industry will be included. The project will also focus on the role of the leaders of those hospitals and how they choose to respond to the ethical issue of a lack of racial diversity in their managerial positions. The research will highlight the current DEI programs and how healthcare organizations have had to re-evaluate their DEI strategies, due to the reversal of some affirmative action policies. This project will also identify how these programs are being impacted currently by governmental drawbacks in the healthcare sector. The main objective for this analysis is to identify what is causing this unethical issue and to understand where there needs to be change in the healthcare system today. The research will be conducted through the analysis of secondary sources, such as research databases, journal articles and other valid peer-reviewed sources.
