Advancing Health and Medicine by Integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI), Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and Immunology
This research aims to show how we can advance health and medicine by integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI), Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and Immunology. Integration of these different disciplines is a new frontier and can promote progress of the modern medical system. Traditional Chinese Medicine is a multidisciplinary approach, developed in ancient China. It analyzes the human body and the environment following holistic principles and reveals the deep interactions between the micro-environment and the macro-environment. The correlation between a functional immune system and a functional metabolism network shows a comprehensive biological dynamic under certain environmental conditions. Maintaining an internal environment that favors normal functioning of the cells is necessary in disease prevention. However, due to the complexity of the human body, it is hard to consider all the different bioactivities simultaneously. Since artificial intelligence works well in finding hidden patterns among complex data, it can help to interpret the complicated interactions between environmental factors and a healthy body condition. The application of AI will help researchers to find deeper connections between TCM and immunology, and to form a systematic view of the human body using unsupervised learning. Through comparing the data of specific ailments collected from TCM sources and from the fields of immunology, biochemistry, microbiology and others, the patterns and commonalities that go undetected can be examined using AI as the tool. As a result, the integration will promote medical discovery, improve treatment outcomes, and maintain a healthy body condition through daily disease prevention and regulation.
