Abstract
The ever-changing industry landscape of the film industry has helped to shape the culture of the world and influence change since its inception over one hundred years ago. As consumer preferences have shifted and changed so have the companies and creators that make films, and due to recent incidents, this change has been rapidly accelerated. The impacts of the pandemic, which left average consumers spending an increasing amount of time watching film, television, and social media; the rise of streaming services, which are all vying for a limited amount of consumer eyes, time, and desirable entertainment catalogue; and the decline in movie theater financial performance and box office revenue despite their long-standing recession resistant performance, have all resulted in a perceived reduction in quality that this study aims to prove. By combining consumer preference opinions as well as the relevant historical data relating to financial performance and overall critical acclaim across the industry, this study aims to quantify the reduction in quality and relate that to the other major problems facing the film industry to determine what the future of this industry may look like in the aftermath of this artificially accelerated revolution across the cinematic landscape.
