Abstract
Sexual Violence (SV) has been a prevalent issue for many years making it an issue that continues to get researched time and time again. Prior research has shown a positive relationship between pornography and intimate partner SV by means of porn as a sex manual, all about his pleasure, and dehumanizing and devaluing (Tarzia & Tyler 2021). Additionally, men’s endorsement of the Playboy and Power Over Women norms are positively correlated with acceptance of rape myths and sexual harrasment myths (Cole et al. 2019). Using data from Dr. Eagan’s dissertation, this project aims to explore the connection between porn frequency and men’s own reporting of perpetrating acts of sexual violence, through the influence of masculine role norms (Playboy, Power Over Women, and Heteroself-Presenting).We hypothesize that, for men who have a higher frequency of porn use, those who also reported committing acts of SV would report that they endorse the masculine role norms Playboy, Power over Women, and Heteroself-Presenting. This research can be used to gain a further understanding the intricacies of the relationship between porn and sexual violence.
