Abstract

This project aims to display accurate statistical information from the 2022 World Cup and to be able to easily search for information related to the specific, individual goals scored. The tools used in this project included MySQL, Java, MySQL Java Connector as well as VSCode.

Firstly, the 2022 FIFA World Cup database was created to save the data related to entities “country”, “goalscorer”,  and “goal”. Relationships were inserted between these three entities to make the process of retrieving, filtering, and slicing the data more accurate and flexible. SQL language is used to retrieve interesting information from this data like specific matches, top scorers for specific countries, and much more.

Also, an interface is created to access this database, Java language is used to create this interface. Java methods are created to access the MySQL workbench and retrieve data from the three entities as well as the stored procedures.

The project was successful. Much so, that the queries used from SQL language to get specific information were saved and able to be formed into stored procedures for quicker, easier access. In the future, I’d like to import the scanner class in Java with databases so that the user can pick the specific information they want to find. Creating a wider database including every World Cup is also something that would enhance this project further.
