The Little Girl In The Photo Is Me
"The Little Girl in the Photo is Me" is a documentary short film delving into my journey of self-discovery after coming out as transgender in 8th grade and discovering at 19 that I am on the autism spectrum. The film captures perspectives from key individuals in my life, including high school teachers and family members connected to the K-12 education system. This poster and presentation detail the behind-the-scenes work that went into the creation of the film, explores some of the challenges faced during the different production stages, and documents how it came to be.
The film explores the intersectionality of transgender and neurodivergent experiences in the educational setting, aiming to create empathy and understanding. Through this documentary, and by sharing my story, I aim to inspire change within the system and contribute to a more inclusive and affirming world, regardless of gender identity or neurodiversity. As a transgender filmmaker, my commitment lies in reflecting both my experiences and those of other neurodivergent and queer individuals so our voices are heard. The documentary stands as a testament to the journey of transformative self-discovery that I have undergone and serves as a time capsule of this period of my life, to be able to look back on it fondly years down the road.
