Mercy : A Short Film
My Honors Thesis project is a short film in which Andy, an escaped convict dealing with severe injuries, seeks shelter in what he assumes is an abandoned cabin in the woods. When it is revealed that the cabin is inhabited by Ryan, a former medical student, Andy lies about why he’s really on the run in order to avoid further consequences for his actions. With this film, I intend to showcase both unconditional friendship and the act of taking accountability.
The process of creating the film thus far has been very time consuming and intensive. Much of my work has been focused on script writing and revising, finding cast and crew, creating a budget and schedule, finding a filming location, and pre-planning camera set-ups and movements. As the writer, director, co-producer, and director of photography on the project, my workload has been extreme but very fulfilling. I wanted my Thesis to focus on my greatest passions within my field and showcase what I’ve learned over the course of my college education, and I feel that my work is effectively shaping up to do that. I’ve used this opportunity to collaborate with fellow film students who I admire, and I’m grateful to be able to learn from them and grow with them, overcoming the challenges and stresses that come with the process and allowing us to evolve as filmmakers overall.
