Abstract

Freedom of speech is the right for individuals or communities to express their opinions and ideas without fear of punishment, or legal consequences. The First Amendment protects freedom of speech in the United States. Currently, students have the freedom to demonstrate their creativity and positivity, resulting in various benefits for society and education. The shifting world events and standards have greatly altered students' inclination to voice their opinions. The research purpose of this project is to find out how the idea of free speech has influenced college students' expression in the past 5 years across the US. This research is primarily based on the internet and library research. From my preliminary findings, the students' level of expression through freedom of speech varies. Various factors, including gender, age, race, and outlook on life, influence this. Nevertheless, the concept of free speech has certain disadvantages that need to be carefully considered, such as the problem of hate speech, and negative propaganda regarding a variety of fields. At this point, the role of educational institutions and teachers in providing guidance and direction becomes crucial.
