Abstract
In this study, I investigate the impact of neoliberalism on Peru since the creation of the new Peruvian constitution by the Fujimori authoritarian government in 1993. I analyze several critical sectors within the Peruvian economy that were transitioned from government-owned to privately-owned entities through the market-led theory of economic development termed the Washington Consensus. My findings reveal a negative correlation between privatization and the lives of Peruvian citizens. These findings also reveal that the neoliberal model is linked to creating higher social inequality and the exclusion of the majority of the population from the political decision-making process.
