Abstract

My civic engagement project addresses local community health disparities by compiling a comprehensive binder of healthcare and other resources for the Amherst Survival Center to promote equity and well-being among marginalized populations.

The binder will provide resources on critical areas of concern, including homelessness, housing/shelter, healthcare access, and food assistance. This project aims to address critical gaps in resources and services for vulnerable low-income individuals served by the Amherst Survival Center, guided by research on the correlation between physical and mental health in underserved communities, emphasizing the need for holistic approaches to address co-occurring health conditions.

Furthermore, the project explores initiatives to mitigate the impact of homelessness by emphasizing the importance of comprehensive support services and targeted interventions. It also investigates the implications of healthcare policy changes on community health outcomes, stressing the need for accessible and culturally competent healthcare services.

Based on these insights, the project compiles a curated binder of resources, including information on housing assistance, healthcare providers, food access programs, and other essential services. This binder will serve as a practical tool for the Amherst Survival Center's clients, empowering them to access the support and resources they need to thrive.

This civic engagement project contributes to ongoing efforts to address community health disparities and promote equity and well-being for all residents by researching findings and practical resources. Through collaboration with community partners and stakeholders, the project aims to foster a more inclusive and supportive environment for marginalized populations served by the Amherst Survival Center.
