Impact of Multinational Corporations on the Global Environment
This undergraduate thesis provides an analysis of the ways in which multinational corporations contribute to environmental pollution, with a particular emphasis on carbon pollution, soil degradation, water pollution, and plastic pollution. Evidence shows that multinational corporations within numerous industries are directly responsible for generating a large portion of the world’s pollution through their products and supply chains. Multinational corporations have also heavily perpetrated economic and political environments in which environmentally unsustainable practices are encouraged and rewarded. Meanwhile, national politics and policies enable or otherwise fail to hinder the negative impacts of multinational corporations on pollution. Research on the topic includes critical analysis of data from the UN, EU, and scholarly resources. There is analysis of various research articles pertaining to multinational corporation pollution statistics and reports, commitment to and action towards sustainable practices by multinational corporations, past and present political sustainability efforts, and the culture and practices that contribute to pollution within various industries. The findings of this research indicate that environmental pollution is rooted in the actions of multinational corporations.
