Abstract

Since March of 2016, I have wanted to make a film exploring the political events of 2016-2021 through the perspective of high schoolers. As someone who was in high school during this time, these political events drastically shaped our lives during that time. My hope is that this film would provide a fresh perspective on these events and help certain people realize how crazy things have gotten.

A strong story is important to this film, but that story and this film as a whole cannot be made without extensive research. Historical accuracy is important to me as well as capturing events that were a big deal at the time, but people have all but forgotten about since then. I would like to focus on news stories, articles, and first hand recounts of stories from this time.

Additionally, this film will center on 3 characters: One left leaning and one right leaning, both of whom drift more towards their respective extremes as the film progresses, and one character who starts the film right in the middle and must eventually pick a side.

I have lived the life of a Democrat who became a leftist over the course of growing up, so writing that story will be easy. However, I have little direct experience with the opposite. The most important part of this research project will being looking into interviews and other stories told by conservatives who at one point supported Trump, and focus on why they eventually turned their back on him.
