Abstract
This thesis project details the instructions for a tabletop roleplaying game (TTRPG) created over the course of a year called Wizards in Debt (WiD). WiD focuses on gameplay with a heavy emphasis on strategic combat, lots of varied spell and character customization, and a stark contrast between the whimsical atmosphere and dangerous gameplay. Reading through this project will provide the basic set up and guidelines to begin playing WiD for both players and game masters. The goal is to better understand the process of creating a TTRPG, the work that may go into one, and changes in the process over time, in order to produce a final draft of a playtestable game. Besides the components of the work, Wizards in Debt surrounds itself around the narrative of wizardry, spell casting, and debt to the game master’s main character known as the “Wizard Master”, in which a player will create a character and spend the rest of the game working off their “mind debt” to their Wizard Master until they complete said task, lose their life, or decide that their character’s story is over. WiD also explains the rules of the game, the stats and story a player’s character will have, the overarching themes and setting of the game, as well as combat mechanics, in order to teach even the most basic of TTRPG players how to begin.
