The Application and Evaluation of Arts Management Strategies to the UMass Wind Ensemble's Ecuador Tour
In today’s day and age, arts programs are constantly neglected and lack necessary funding from individuals, school systems, and even the government. The need for arts education is more apparent than ever. Both visual and performing arts have been proven to have a positive effect on the physical and mental wellbeings of individuals, and particularly adolescents. I have been extremely fortunate to have been exposed to the joys of music at an early age, been inspired to play an instrument, and encouraged by my family and teachers. As a result, I believe that the power of the arts is something that can change lives. My own life and career choices have been shaped by the arts, and I hope to continue to pass on inspiration to generations to come.
Through my thesis, I aim to gain insight into the realm of performing arts management and gain the skills necessary to make decisions like performing arts managers of today who have paved the way for change to occur. Without determined arts managers, the performing arts industry would likely die out, as it is constantly being underfunded, and as a result, attract a smaller audience. This kind of research and knowledge is absolutely necessary to keep the arts alive, and to continue to shape young people into emotionally intelligent, confident, compassionate adults with the ability to make a positive impact on society.
