Abstract

The capacity of the ultra-wealthy to move globally has been a cause for controversy and then concern over the past 50 years. I examine when billionaires move, what are the characteristics of the billionaire, the country of origin, and the destination country that are motivating the move. In order to do this, I am conducting a data analysis on the hundreds of cases in which current billionaires have chosen to change residency. By examining the frequencies of characteristics of countries billionaires emigrate away from and immigrate towards, we can better understand their decision-making process and ultimately what they value.
